MS. DODIER, ENVIROCOMPÉTENCES IS THE FIRST OF 29 SECTORAL COMMITTEES IN QUEBEC TO OFFER ITS PARTNERS THE CID’S ECORESPONSIBLE^TM CERTIFICATION. WHAT WAS BEHIND THIS DECISION?

At EnviroCompétences, we stay in the know about tools that might help our partners overcome their workforce-related challenges. After attending a presentation about the ECORESPONSIBLE^TM Certification, given by Pierre Fillion from the Conseil des Industries Durables (Council of Sustainable Industries – CID), I was immediately attracted by the solution’s simplicity and thoroughness. Moreover, the program was a perfect match for our values and our desire to show that we are a leader in the green economy.

WHY IS THE ECORESPONSIBLE^TM PROGRAM RELEVANT OR ATTRACTIVE TO YOUR PARTNERS?

Firstly, our partners are keenly interested in human resources. They truly believe that a business’ success is dependent on a qualified, involved and well-respected workforce. The ECORESPONSIBLE^TM Certification speaks to them, especially through its social chapter. It provides them with elements to further formalize their approaches, notably to reduce accidents, look out for their employees’ mental health and well-being, and ensure equality for all. Once again, the program’s simplicity and rigour are strong assets.

WHAT BENEFITS DO YOU FORSEE FOR BUSINESSES THAT PARTAKE IN THE ECORESPONSIBLE^TM PROGRAM?

Principles of green economy, procedures and “clean” products are increasingly popular. This conclusion is confirmed on a daily basis by the reduction of our environmental impact, but also through social and economic elements. Many contractors require that their suppliers provide proof of compliance with sustainable development elements. By displaying their best practices, businesses certified by the ECORESPONSIBLE^TM Program definitely have a leg up.

HOW HAVE YOUR PARTNERS RECEIVED THIS NEW TOOL THAT YOU PROVIDE?

At least four businesses among our partners have already gotten their ECORESPONSIBLE^TM Certification. We are currently working on promoting the program and supporting other businesses in this process, which I feel is a must. I think we absolutely need to DEMYSTIFY the idea of ECORESPONSIBILITY. There is a pressing need for us to adopt this program and turn it into a distinguishing feature that will power Quebec’s green economy
